Do You See What You See?, 2022
Interactive two-channel video installation with live feed, 3D printed sculpture
Dimensions variable
A 3D relief on the wall depicts the terrain of a mountainous region on the surface of Mars.
A live feed of this Martian terrain is being projected via a 1990’s era Game Boy camera, a once state-of-the-art technology now showing its limitations and producing uncanny images. The combination of scale, image compression, resolution, and the interplay of light and shadow, which is controlled by pressing the button, is an invitation to distort the image and for myth to propagate.
Adjacent to the live feed projection is a projection of astrophotography images of the lunar cycle. A soundtrack sourced from NASA recordings of the Martian landscape plays beneath confident assertions and speculative analysis of what is seen in the images.
