Self-portrait series, 2022
Framed media installation in frame

This self-portrait series is an experimental work inspired by Russian fairy tales. This is one of several characters performed, filmed, and digitally manipulated by the artist. In this work, the imaginary and the real are mixed and inseparable, as in fairy tales.

The re-imagining of old fairy tales helps to reconsider the reality we live in and understand its uncanny nature. Kolobok is about the desire that can't be full-filled and turns into a perverted series of actions to turn craziest fantasies and fears into real physical form. I transform myself into different characters and place them in a mixed reality of form, 2D and 3D animations. I project my story into antique-style frames on the wall imitating medieval paintings or old fashioned living room decorations. Frames represent pages of the fairytale book and play simultaneously neglecting the traditional way to present sequential narratives.
